My newborn baby has been home for almost 2 weeks now. He is eating more milk and is feeding more consistently now.
Just when we think everything is heading in the right direction. Here comes the baby acne! Watching these red-inflated bumps spreading all over the baby’s smooth and silky skin is truly painful for a new dad!
Day 1
When we first noticed the little red patches, they were intimidating! Especially considering how smooth Henry’s skin was otherwise. We started questioning everything. Is his sheet dirty? Are our hands dirty? Are we not wiping his face often enough? In a moment of panic, we washed the bassinet sheets, all of his clothes, our bed sheet, and all the towels that we used during his feeding.
Day 2
After the initial shock that Henry’s spotless skin was ruined within 2 weeks in our care, my wife and I did enough research to realize that baby acne is common for newborns his age, especially breastfed babies. So logically we decided to turn to magic and witchery.

It is said that mommy milk bath helps with baby acne and we have a full fridge of supply, thanks to an over-achieving mom. We poured 30 oz (roughly, we did not know the exact water/milk ratio and just poured enough so that the bath water became milky) of break milk into baby’s bathtub and rubbed it all over his body. Henry did not seem to mind the familiar flavor, he even tried to dip his head into the bath water and get a taste!
Conclusion
After dedicated efforts over the past two days to address Henry’s baby acne, it’s honestly challenging to discern any significant improvement from the baby milk bath on Day 3. While certain areas of his face appear to be less inflamed, there are still new patches breaking out. However, my wife and I find ourselves more at ease and comfortable with this reality overall.
